Annapolis Valley Heritage

The Annapolis Valley is rich with history, celebrating the diverse cultures of the French Acadians, the New England Planters and native Mi'kmaq. There are many great resources online to help you learn about the history of the area. You'll find extensive genealogical databases, census records, photo galleries and postcard collections that offer up a glimpse of the Valley's celebrated past. 

Historic Digby

The Town of Digby's web site has lots of information about the town's history. Digby has been an active fishing and lumber producing community throughout the years, famous for the delicious scallops harvested from its local waters, spectacular vistas of The Annapolis Basin and clear, crisp air. The photo gallery has a great collection of images and postcards depicting the town from it modest roots.

The Islands Historical Society

Members of Brier Island Historical Society met with members of the Tiverton Board of Trade to found Islands Historical Society and build Islands Museum on Long Island. Here you will find extensive information on the social history and family genealogies of the area, along with an impressive collection of photographs capturing the life and times of many generations of families from Islands.

Kings County Museum

The museum is housed in the old courthouse which was built in 1903, and served as Kings County's seat of justice for more than seventy-five years. The museum has an extensive collection of historical photographs and negatives taken by a number of photographers available online. These photographs provide us with fascinating glimpses of our past.

Acadian Heritage

By the middle of the 18th century Acadians had settled all along the Hants shore and this area had become one of the major settlements in the French colony of Acadie. On the Hants Regional Development Authority web site you'll find an Acadian Village Map, Acadian Vignettes / vignettes acadiennes and detailed information about the Ships of the Deportation.
